Metabolic Syndrome:

Metabolic syndrome is the name for a group of risk factors that raises your risk for heart disease and other health problems, such as diabetes and stroke.

Metabolic syndrome is becoming more common due to a rise in obesity rates among adults and children.

In the future, metabolic syndrome may overtake smoking as the leading risk factor for heart disease. It is possible to prevent or delay metabolic syndrome, mainly with lifestyle changes.

Diabetes:

One of the fastest growing diseases is diabetes. Diabetes is a persistent condition that occurs when the body cannot create enough insulin. A person with diabetes does not take in glucose properly, and glucose stays circulating in the blood damaging tissues over time. This damage leads to terminal health complications.

Managing your diet is a huge part of managing diabetes, as important as monitoring blood sugar levels. If you know what to eat, how much to eat and what to avoid you can control diabetes.

The optimal diet includes a healthy mixture of the right fruits and vegetables - and don't try to cut corners.

Sleep Apnea:

Sleep apnea is a common disorder in which you have one or more pauses in breathing or shallow breaths while you sleep.

Sleep apnea is one of the leading causes of extreme daytime sleepiness. IIt can often be controlled by lifestyle changes such as losing weight, not smoking, avoiding caffeine and heavy meals, and avoiding alcohol.

Untreated sleep apnea can lead to:

  • Increase the risk of high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, obesity, and diabetes.
  • Increase the risk of, or worsen, heart failure.
  • Make arrhythmias, or irregular heartbeats, more likely.
  • Increase the chance of having work-related or driving accidents.
