What is an OS?

An Operating System (OS) is a set of programs made to manage computer hardware, without an operating system a computer would be totally useless. There are many choices when it comes to operating systems today that have evolved over the past century. One good thing about operating systems is that they are fairly new so many of the developers are still alive today.

An example of OS evolution is Microsoft's operating system widely known today, this OS has evolved from an old command line computer system known as DOS or Disk Operating System on the bottom I have the pictures of how it has evolved over the past 26 years.

The question is Windows, Apple, or Linux. There are many choices for OSes nowadays but which one is better, well that all depends on who you ask. If you asked an image editor/manipulator chances are he would say apple, but at the same time if you asked a gamer which one he would prefer he would probably say windows, simply because more game/software programmers build their programs for windows.           There are many different viewpoints on this situation, it all depends on what you are doing, and mainly the brand and technology of your computer. Some people can only use one OS, because it is the only one that has the ability to run the software they will be using. But anymore that factor is getting smaller because alternative software has been released to allow that user to have a choice in the Operating System they use.
