Saddle Making

The Saddle Making program at OSU Okmulgee was transferred to GCTC in August of 2005. The program offers career preparation in saddlemaking and repair. Students gain exerience in cutting, shaping, tooling, and sewing many types of leathers and become skilled in the operation and maintenance of related specialized machinery.
Students will be able to identify the basic parts of a saddle and related tack, repair and construct a Western saddle and related tack. Students will also be able to design patterns for various saddles and related tack, identify basic styles of saddle trees, riggings, stirrups and related tack and will demonstrate a working knowledge of fitting a tree to a rider and a horse.
