"Every saddle, better than the last one."

The All Leather Seat Most saddles are made with a metal strainer
to support the seat between the open space between the bars of the tree.
If the strainer is not put in
properly the cowboy will feel like he has been on a log all day long.
The all leather seat is reputed to be the most comfortable type of seat.
Cowboys using the all leather seat saddle finish their working day without
muscle soreness.
They think the danger is that they will be too relaxed and go to sleep in
the saddle.
The leather is stretched as it is nailed to the tree and is then placed
on the pull down stand. A tapered
block is then placed between the ground seat leather and the stand. The
block is then driven under the
leather. The leather can be lifted approximately 1” or to the desired
height. The leather is then allowed to
dry. This method of forming an arch takes a little longer as the leather
must be allowed to dry thoroughly
before proceeding with the saddle. The finished product is well worth the
extra time taken.
The only complaint about this
all leather ground seat is that if the saddle gets wet the arch will collapse.
This might be true if the saddle is in a flood. Or if it is allowed to be submerged
in water for and
extended period of time and the leather is saturated. Under normal working
conditions the leather might
get rained on but the seat leather itself will absorb the water and the ground
seat will not get wet.
The Rawhide covered tree.
These trees are more expensive than other types, as fiberglass or the cloth
covered cheapie. The
rawhide covered tree is stronger and last longer and therefore are more economical
in the long run.
For heavy duty roping Hadlock & Fox manufactures a half glass tree which
greatly increases the strength
of the tree. When the half glass is in combination with the Arizona Bars the
product is an extra strong
saddle.
I want to meet the challenge of making a better saddle every time!
A new challenge! I recently enrolled
in the Boot making program at Green Country Tech. This is
something that I have wanted to do for a long time. I drive to Okmulgee, Okla.
one day a week for this
class.
