
The National Museum of the American Indian was established in 1989 by an act of Congress. The Museum is
a smaller branch of the Smithsonian. The site on the National Mall is one of three and was opened on September 21, 2004.
The National Museum of the American Indian is the first national museum in the United States to be dedicated to Native Americans.
The building opened in 2004 is 5 stories tall and has 250,000 square feet.
