
The Washington Monument is an obelisk located near the National Mall in Washington D.C. It's construction was started in 1848 but not finished until 1884.
It was built to commemorate the first President of the United States, George Washington. It is 555 feet tall.
The monument stands east of the both the Lincoln Memorial and The reflecting pool.
