Adult Workshops and Descriptions  

Everyday Creativity – Cathy and Kevin Allen

There are amazing things out there for all of us to see everyday- no matter what we are doing.  Whether we see them or not depends on our perspective, our point of view. Every challenge and situation has multiple solutions – sometimes we just have to re-train our minds to “see” the problem and the solution from a different angle. Learn how to apply creative problem solving techniques to everyday situations. 

4-H Small Animal Projects – Carl Wallace

This workshop will teach adults how to start a successful small animal program. The training will focus primarily on rabbits and poultry. Participants will learn about selection, housing, feeding and exhibition techniques. 

4-H Energizers – Chrissy Whitten

Low on drive? Come get energized with the topics covered including, but not limited to: Reality Check, Boundaries, Organization, Time/Calendars, Laughing Heart, Sprucing Up Meetings, Resources and Beyond, and Relaxation Techniques. Life can get us down, so make sure to catch these topics to give you a fresh outlook for 2009.  

ORF…it’s the Oklahoma Report Form! State Record Books Workshop – Jessica Stewart

Oklahoma Report Forms, 4-H stories and application materials can seem confusing if you’re completing them for the first time. Participate in this workshop to learn more about state record books and their history, as well as how to complete the Oklahoma Report Form. Question and answer session will follow.  

Birding….The Basics! – Kevin Allen

Bird watching is one of the fastest growing leisure activities in the world.  An estimated 80 million people of all ages and physical abilities are involved in some manner of bird watching.  Bird watching is second only to gardening as a leisure activity in North America. This workshop is intended to serve as an introduction to bird watching. Participants will learn about binoculars as well as methods and techniques used to identify birds. 

Navigating 4-H Curriculum – Cathy Allen

Exciting and engaging are some of the things being said about 4-H curriculum.  Join us to explore 4-H Literature on-line and some of the new offerings available, as we transition Oklahoma 4-H curriculum to focus on experiential, activity-based learning of life skills that are important to young people.  

The Arts are IMPORTANT to 4-H Project Work – Karla Knoepfli

Albert Einstein said that "imagination is more important than knowledge."

Studies show youth demonstrate better grades, a capacity for self-assessment and a secure sense of their own abilities when engaged in creative activities.  Explore how 4-H is a positive example of "arts-based" programs for youth and the key components to a genuine learning experience.  Leave with a fresh perspective of how to perceive and approach 4-H programming and project work. 

Talk It Up! – Patty and Katy Crocker

Open up a world of opportunities for the 4-Hers in your life by helping them learn techniques to conquer the fears and trials of public speaking.  All 4-Hers have opportunities to develop excellent public speaking skills.  Learn how to nudge them to take advantage of those opportunities.  

Teaching Technology – Ryan Dunkerson

Do you like technology? Experiments? Hands on interaction? Have you ever wanted to start a technology project in your club or county? Here are some tips to get you started on your way. Come see some ideas about Robotics, GPS, Electronics and many fun experiences to do with 4-H’ers. Resources will be handed out. 

Hydro-Rockets Competition – Rick Clovis

Workshop will be designed for those with some hydro-rocket experience. Purpose of the workshop is for the participants to return to their home counties to train & encourage 4-H youth to participate in a hydro-rocket contest at the State Roundup.  The session will give the exact rules for the contest, as well as give examples of rocket construction and launch systems. Educational material and program ideas will be presented that will aid the participants in presenting an educational, as well as fun program in their home counties.   

Money FUNdamentals – Dea Rash and Trinity Brown

Participants will learn about educational materials and activities related to financial education, money management and consumer education.  These resources will be useful when planning educational club meetings and programs for 4-H members of all ages. 

4-H Centennial Garden Project – Jeremy and Nancy Arnett

Come find out what is going on at the Botanical Gardens to celebrate Oklahoma 4-H Centennial and discover what kinds of projects you can do in your local communities.  Get excited about the centennial and have a lasting impact on your community and the environment.   

Dough-in-a-Bag Crafts – Barbara Denney and Dianna Parker

It’s amazing, that little plant…wheat!  Do you know how many neat things can be made with flour & salt dough…and we’re not just talkin’ food (although that’s an idea).  This dough-craft can be made into lots of different things from gingerbread ornaments to jewelry or home décor.  While you’re making your crafts, you’ll hear some fun facts about this awesome #1, most important grain to humans.  You will also learn how to find lots of neat information at the Ag in the Classroom web-site. 

Are you a Calculating Consumer? – Donna Dollins

We are all consumers because we buy and use things. Why not learn how to be a calculating consumer? Participants will learn about resources that are available to assist young people in making informed decisions before spending money.
